Bengalooru Traffic Darshan

I guess one of the hottest topic being discussed by the people working/living in Bangalore (Bengalooru!!!) is "Traffic".. This topic can be found being discussed at each and every opportunity, for example
1) Coffee Breaks
2) Lunch Breaks
3) Office Party
4) Customer Dinner/Party
5) Marriages/Functions...etc...

You can find a lot of these being discussed in forums, blogs, papers and lots have been said about this mess but I guess no one has a solid solution. Very recently in papers I saw an article about the "ORRCA" which is a good initiative by the people working at the offices in ORR. This is similar to the one that people working at the DELL office did sometimes before @ the Inner Ring Road. But is this the way to deal with this?? So here are my few thoughts.. Again I am not an expert in traffic Management but I feel I can contribute a little through my thought process.
Lets take our "ORR" as an example. For people not familiar with Bangalore's ORR, its the Outer Ring Road which is quite a Big Road with 6 Lanes and 4 Lanes of Service Road (Which is not completed 100%). But sadly it has got lots of Junctions or Traffic blocks. With that we can immediately get to the conclusion that the long term solution is to built flyovers on all the junctions or a Magic Box... (I really like the way the Magic Box was explained by Chamrajpet Charles in 94.3 Radio One.) But in India a flyover takes thrice the estimated time, 4 times the estimated Budget and at least two change in governments (so that bribe is equally spread) to get complete, which means the long term solution would enable only my grand children to travel through it...

So do we have any short term solutions... Yes we have lot of options. But to implement any of this what we all need is a little discipline and strict policing.

1) The companies at the ORR are the main cause of the traffic chaos, they are the one misusing the Service Roads. I guess this is the first time i have seen vehicles travelling in both the direction on a 2 lane service road. Refer to this Wiki Article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontage_road. Because of this the traffic at the Junctions are not 4 ways but from 8 ways. So if we can get the companies to ensure that they will allow the traffic to flow in the direction of the main road then I guess we will see lots of improvement there.

2) The people travelling through the ORR must ensure that they follow the lane discipline or at least common sense and not try to take right turn from the leftmost lane vice versa. Please try to stop at the junction when told so by a small innocent private security guard who has no training/no clue on how to control traffic and you don’t find a Cop around. You can find this scenario at the each and every junction where the traffic from opposite sides stand exactly in front of each and not ready to let go the other.

3) The cops, please fine heavily the people violating the basic rules and drive with no sense of traffic like jumping signals, trying to take a right turn from the service road at the ORR/Sarjapur Road junction.

4) The BMTC, Private Buses, Maxicabs, Cabs, Bullock cart divers. Please try not to stop exactly after the junction. Commuters in Bangalore are still healthy and can walk an extra 100feet to catch their mode of transport.

5) Last the pedestrians, please don’t try to cross the roads on your will and wish. There are lots of first time drivers and careless/reckless maxicab drivers drive through the stretch and you put your life and their life at Risk.

My first Blog...

Its been a long time since I have been asked (rather tortured) by many of my friends, colleagues that why I am not writing any blogs. I gave them variety of responses but Iguess the underlying factor is that "I am too lazy to sit and write something"....

Now I have made up my mind and here I start with my very first blog.

As a first timer to Blogs and a trained IT Professional I did these steps before i started scribbling here
1) I did a google for "Blogs"... http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=blogs
2) I did wiki for "Blogs".... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

And I figured out that there are no rules and regulations, syntax that need to be followed as long as you don't directly insult/comment about a person and I guess that's easy to stick to that. But incase any of the incidents or characters that comes in these blogs refers to any living or dead person then i guess that's purely coincidental.

Ok the ground rules are set and its time to get into some actual blogging.
